Honshu Chemical became the first to produce aniline, phenol and some other chemicals in Japan, doing so at its Wakayama Works and by using its own unique technologies. The company thus pioneered the development of the Japanese chemical industry.
Inheriting this pioneering spirit to this day, the Wakayama Works manufactures a diversity of distinct fine chemicals with the company’s unique technologies. At the same time, the plant constantly improves its new product development setup by applying the cutting-edge test and multipurpose plants to meet the ever more diverse and advanced needs speedily and flexibly.
To ensure product safety and quality to thereby satisfy and build trust of customers, the Wakayama Works boasts a stringent quality control system, acquiring the ISO9002 certification in November 1993 (upgraded to the ISO9001 2000 version in November 2002). In its environmental efforts, too, the plant acquired the ISO14001 certification in April 1999. To fulfill its responsibility as a member of the local society in which it operates, the Wakayama Works takes numerous energetic steps to protect the environment on an ongoing basis.

Research Center
Honshu Chemical's Research Center develops and supplies a large number of distinct fine chemicals by taking full advantage of the company’s synthesis and high-purification technologies. To meet customers’ needs meticulously as their trusted product development partner, in particular, the Research Center engages in the sort of its own product development that runs in close alignment with customers’ development stages. In doing so, the Research Center applies its keywords “agility,” “flexibility” and “reliability” throughout all processes from finding inspirations at the laboratory to sample production at the pilot center to verification production at the multipurpose manufacturing plant.
